Folding@Home
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:35:14 PM »
Alright guys, it's time to start folding! What is Folding@Home? It's a program that uses the normally unused part of your CPU to simulate the folding of proteins. Why do this? It's an important step in learning how to prevent diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease. If you want to get started, go here to download: Click!
What's the direct benefit to you? Well, I have set up a team to represent TNH: Click!
When you run the program, right-click it in the taskbar, click configure, and enter the following:
User name: Your forum username.
Team number: 164251
Passkey: Don't worry about this unless you have one.
For every work unit your computer produces, I will give you 10 Rep points (1 Rep power). We have so far made this many:

For more information on Folding@Home: Click!

Another note: This program will not lag your computer unless your computer is truly ancient; it only uses the otherwise unused CPU and won't take priority over other applications unless you configure it to.

Hey, if you want the rep, make sure you enter the team information in; you're not on the team contributions page yet.

Heh. The funny thing is that you don't have to get off your ass. You can just run it while you sit on it. XD

Coolness! I, unfortunately, have stopped folding on account that my laptop does not cool well and my desktop is currently out of commission. I might grab a linux client for my old laptop and stick it somewhere though... Only 850MHz but it'll push some work units out anyway.
And it does work with Windows 7. :)

It'll probably take a day or so to show up; it doesn't show units that you've completed while you're not on the team.
